Species Bio - Novaerians (Nova Dragons)
![]()
The Novaerians are a species of bipedal winged reptilians, formerly from the Draco II galaxy. General they stand at a similar height to Terrans (between 1.5 and 2 metres), although some members can reach heights upto 3 metres due to age. Novaerians are noteable resemblance to terran myths about Dragons, giving them the common nickname "Novae dragons"
Quick Info
Homeworld: Novaeris, a large world that consisted mostly of tropical islands and oceans, with the occasional mountainous structure near tectonic plates. Their homeworld was destroyed, ever since the system's star, Novaeris Polarius, went supernova.
Home System: Novae
Native Gravity: 1.45g
Year Length: 397 days
Lifespan: Native Novaerians can live on average between 70-90 years. A domesticated Novaerian could possibly live far longer, but currently no non-Cotyledons Novaerians have been documented.
Domesticated: 2400CE
Names: Ancient Novaerian names usually followed the theme of being at least three syllables long e.g. Komaltar, Seyluka, Tolana. However, when they became scattered colonies, they took on names more akin to teran, but with the three syllable last name e.g. Clara Karzaitreen, Mark Hunolo.
Appearance and Physiology
Novaerians have slim, reptilian snouts, with twin sets of triangular ears. They possess strong jaws, with conical front teeth that are designed for biting into the native fish and aquatic fauna, and more terran-like molar teeth designed for crushing plant matter. They also possess varying kinds of horns; Most typically have a singular pair of horns, but some possess twin pairs, all in shapes unique to it's owner
They posess bodies similar to that of Terrans, but also possess a large, thick tail and a pair of large scaled wings, with a thick wing membrane akin to bats or pterosaurs. Their body is adorned with smooth scales, as well as hair upon their heads, as well as running down their tail by the spine, and ending at the tip of their tail in a noteable plummage.
While their scales are usually in muted colours, such as dark browns or varying shades of grey, their hair is far more vibrant, usually ranging in a spectrum of colours from bright reds to deep purples to even bright yellows.
Sexual dimorphism, outside of reproductive organs, in the Novaerian species it not easy to spot, but is mostly found in their hair colours, and in their wing; Males tend to have hair colours on the cooler side, as well as possessing non-iridescent wings. Females, on the other hand, possess hair colours in the warmer side of the color spectrum, as well as possessing iridescent wing membranes.
Due to their homeworld's tropical climate and vast oceans, Novaerians are naturall adept swimmers, their large tails allowing them to swim with ease alongside proper swimming techniques, alongside using their powerful wings, which also function for short-term flight in the air. While not a nessecary requirement, housing a swimming pool or large bathroom in your habitation unit, alongside some live edible fish, will provide superb enrichment for any potential Novaerian florets.
It cannot be understated that Novaerians have sensitive ears, so try and keep any audio to lower volumes when a Novaerian is lacking a haustoric implant. They are also shockingly receptive to Biorhythms; Even just staring into the eyes of an Affini is enough to make a Novaerian stop what they're doing. This is depending on the individual, as some possess a normal level of reception from the Affini Biorhythm
"My dear sweet Haylie was such a sweet thing, you could just stare at her and she would go from talking about her day to staring at you unblinkingly. Even when she was so resistant at first, by the end of the first day I already had her gesture trained" - Pitaya selenicereus, 4th bloom
Culture & History:
For most of their pre-space faring history, they were peaceful tribal people that lived in the scattered islands of their planet. Highly communal, with their society being focused on the collective needs of the people, rather than the individual. As a result of this, systems like capitalism never came to be in their culture, instead favoring a collective duty to everyone.
One they had achieved space travel, They began to expand their culture to local star systems, with groups of families forming colonies. Sadly, their homeworld would slowly wither and decay, it's oceans drying up and it's tropical beaches becoming deserts, due to the system's sun expanding further.
From the Colonies, they had tried to develop a new society, but with so many colonies trying to find a new homeworld, it quickly got messy; Many flew into Affini space, leading to a Cotyledon Program from these colonies and the signing of the Novaerian Colonistic Domestication treaty, while others flew into Terran space, forcing them into a war that lead to their kind being drive out of the wider galaxy.
As it currently stands, finding new colonies is rare, with any attempt to contact them resulting in the colony swiftly moving without any warning, as if trying to keep themselves hidden from the galaxy.
